Me and one of the second years decided to try and find someone from this course who started out bad then excelled into a truly great artist. We wanted to know if it was true that it could be done.
There is of course talk about particular students who have done this, with hope and curiosity we looked through the facebook albums of students gone by and found none.
The fact was that everyone who excelled into something great was pretty much already great to begin with.
This didnt really give us much hope for the future.
Then it dawned on us that we had no idea what good really was, the stuff we saw as good probably wasnt so great after all. That was scary we did not know the level at which we should aspire to be.
Does it matter though? Does it mean it cannot be done. No. We are different people.
If I spent 4 days on a final peice would my work look better? Just by fluke?
They say if you sit an infinate amount of monkeys at a typewriter eventually one will type the complete works of shakesphere. It dosent mean that monkey has talent.
Im going to just keep having a go. I want my work to be good because I decided it will be not just by sheer dumb luck.
For the record Id never spend more than 2- 3 hrs max on a final. Id only go further than 2 hrs if i could see it was working.
So in conclusion. I think the way im doing it at the moment is the right way. Perhaps more planning, becasue failing to plan is planning to fail. See if it pays off.
